Using your mesh
Your devices can reach each other by address, just like on a normal network.
Once your devices are on the mesh, they can talk to each other the same way they would on a home Wi-Fi network. Anything that works over a local network will work here.
Find your addresses
Each device gets its own address:
- The host is always 10.9.9.1
- The first device to join is 10.9.9.2
- The next is 10.9.9.3, and so on
Open MeshRoute on any device to see its own address, listed as Interface IP.
Things you can do
Point any app at the other device's address instead of a normal network address. For example:
- Play a local multiplayer game together with no Wi-Fi network in the room
- Open a web page from a server running on the other device by typing its address in Safari
- Connect to another Mac with Screen Sharing or a file share
- Move files with Drop Box, which is built into MeshRoute
Keep the app open
MeshRoute has to stay open on every device while you use the mesh. If you quit the app, that device drops off.
On a Mac you can close the window. The menu bar icon keeps the mesh running.
How fast is it?
On the free plan, speed is capped at 5 Mbps and sessions last 10 minutes a day. Pro removes both limits. See Free plan and Pro.
